Austria, especially famous for its baroque architecture in the Salzburg’s “Old
Town” (Altstadt), it was also listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site
in 1997. Salzburg is geographically located on the banks of the Salzach river
close to the Alps. The famous fortress “Festung Hohensalzburg” was built in 1077
and was later expanded by many rulers. Even though the population of Salzburg
city is of more than 150,000 individuals, this local population gets outnumbered
in the peak tourist season. It is also the birthplace of Wolfgang Amadeus
Mozart.
As mentioned earlier, the Old Town of Salzburg is a World Heritage Site.
Salzburg is well connected with the rest of the country with rails, it is also
well connected with many towns from Germany and Italy. You can also reach here
by air (Salzburg Airport- SZG), buses or drive in your own car. The famous
Salzburg Music Festival is organized each year in July and August attracting
tourists from all over the world. The best way to get around is by taking the
city busses and then walking around. To save money during your trip, do consider
a Salzburg Card if you are planning to stay for a few days. It includes
free admission to most of city’s attractions, public transport and discounts for
tours and events.
Famous tourist attractions of Salzburg are:
1. Salzburger Hellbrunn:
Loaded with natural beauty, it has several clever fountains, castles and
beautiful gardens. It also has a children’s playground, Stone Opera Theatre and
an overall good place for picnic.
2. Hohensalzburg Fortress:
It is located on top of a mountain and is clearly visible from most of the city.
From this famous fortress you can enjoy the breathtaking views of the Salzburg
city and the Alps. There is also a museum of medieval weapons, executioner
chamber and even hosts public concerts in the evenings. It is one of the largest
castles in Europe.
3. Mozart’s birth house:
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was born on 27 January 1756 in this famous house and the
house also hosts a popular museum devoted to Mozart’s family.
4. Schloss Mirabell:
This has a beautiful castle with gardens and the world’s most beautiful wedding
hall (Marble Hall).
5. The Untersberg:
A famous mountain near the city, tourists can take a cable car which takes them
over 1300m to the Geiereck peak.
6. Casino of Salzburg:
Slot machines and other games. It is located in the Schloss Klessheim Palace and
was once used by Adolf Hitler.
7. Visit the Salt Mines:
There are many salt mine tours available in the city. The name Salzburg itself
means “Salt Castle” because once in the 8th century there were barges carrying
salt on the Salzach river.
Other famous tourist attractions include:
Salzburg Zoo, Toy Museum, Museum of Modern Art, Museum of Natural History, Anif
Castle, St. Sebastian Cemetery , Salzburg Cathedral, Residenz State Rooms,
Salzburger Freilichtmuseum GroBgmain (an open-air museum) and Stiftskirche St.
Peter.
BCD Travel Selects Amadeus Agency Manager for EMEA

single mid-office platform for the Europe, Middle East and Africa
region.
BCD Travel, a travel management company, will
use the Amadeus Agency Manager platform to standardise processes
and technology, reduce costs and improve visibility of business
performance – actions aimed at simplifying and streamling its
clients’ travel programs.
Agency Manager is a global, multi-GDS
mid-office solution that allows TMCs to standardise services,
accounting and reporting functions across a diverse range of
markets.
“Amadeus Agency Manager offers the benefits of a
standard mid-office system across EMEA markets while retaining the
flexibility to handle the specific requirements of the many
countries we do business in,” said Heinz Jennewein, BCD Travel’s
senior vice president of Operations and ICT, EMEA. “Our clients
are increasingly looking for efficiencies and also adopting
multinational approaches to travel management. To support these
client goals, we’re making the investments required to drive
global consistency and business performance. We are positioning
ourselves to serve clients in today’s environment as well as in
the year to come as our industry continues to become more
complex.”
Under the agreement, Agency Manager will be
rolled out in Germany, Czech Republic, Portugal, Denmark, Sweden,
Norway and Finland, in addition to the seven EMEA markets where
BCD Travel already uses the solution.
“We have already seen a significant
improvement in agent productivity and customer service
levels in those markets that have already deployed
Agency Manager,” added Mr Jennewein.
SAS launches Thailand - Europe Promotion
Posted , add a commentScandinavian Airlines in Thailand has launched
new limited-period fares of 47,000 Baht for roundtrip Economy
Extra and 67,000 Baht for Business Class travel to 36 northern
European cities. Taxes and fees of around 12,500 Baht must be
added to the fares.
Bookings must be made and issued no later
than 15 August for travel between 21 July and15 December 2009.
Other conditions may apply.
The 36 destinations include major urban gateways
in Scandinavia, Germany and Belgium such as Berlin, Stuttgart,
Dusseldorf, Hannover, Hamburg, Brussels, Oslo, Copenhagen,
Stockholm and Helsinki.
The special price offer can also be used
for 26 smaller destinations across Denmark, Sweden and Norway.
On the ground, travellers receive 30kg baggage
allowance and priority boarding. Onboard they have video and audio
on demand and a power outlet for laptops. Passengers receive
150% EuroBonus points in Economy Extra and 200% in Business Class.
“Premium travellers in Thailand can now reach a wide range of
northern European cities affordably and in great comfort,” said Mr
Hakan Olsson, Director and General Manager for SAS in Southeast
Asia. “Our on-board Scandinavian service standards, dining and
audio-visual features ensure a pleasant roundtrip to some of the
most important cities in northern Europe.”
Travellers who
prefer Business Class can stretch out on a near-horizontal
sleeping bed and enjoy a 26cm personal screen, superior meal
services, a unique in-flight buffet bar, and business lounge

Rocco Forte to open spa resort in Sicily

Starwood signs Four New Hotels in China
Posted November 6, 2008 , add a commentLe Meridien has signed an agreement with Wanda Group to open two new properties in China, one in Qingdao and one in Chongqing. Scheduled to open in 2011, the two new Le Meridien hotels further strengthen the Le Meridien brand’s growing portfolio in China.
In addition, Starwood Hotels & Resorts, the parent company of Le Meridien, has also signed an agreement with Wanda Group to add a Sheraton in Wuxi and a Westin in Taiyuan to the Starwood portfolio in China.
