AirAsia launches Courier Service - Redbox

Posted July 14, 2009 , trackback

AirAsia has launched what it calls a low-cost
courier service - Redbox.

Redbox now offers courier services between
Malaysia’s Central Region (composed of Kuala Lumpur, Selangor and
selected parts of Negeri Sembilan) and the East Malaysian cities
of Kuching, Miri, Sibu, Kota Kinabalu, Labuan and Sandakan. Redbox
delivers packages in 2 to 3 business days.

Azran Osman-Rani, CEO of AirAsia X, said, “Redbox
is the newest of AirAsia’s wide array of innovative products and
services. We are proud to launch another world’s first – this is
truly the first low-cost courier. Redbox will provide support to
local businesses in the Central Region and in East Malaysia,
which, in the current economic climate, can only benefit from
low-cost services that are also reliable and up to par with
industry standards. We are determined to grow this arm of
AirAsia’s business, and we expect to be able to offer courier
services to more AirAsia destinations.”

To send
packages via Redbox, customers log on to redbox.airasia.com
and select their shipment destination,
box size and package weight, and pay for the service online.

Redbox accepts credit card and direct debit payments for online
transactions and credit card and cash for transactions at Sales
Centres.

Boxes come in 10 sizes and weight breaks
are between 5 kg and 25 kg, with weight options going up in
increments of 1 kg. Customers can pre-purchase boxes at any of Redbox’s Sales Centres, and Redbox preferred customers get up to
25% discount on box prices.

Redbox offers
door-to-door courier service. Preferred account customers,
businesses that have Redbox accounts, enjoy pick-up privileges.

Meanwhile, individual customers can drop off their
packages at any of the strategically-located Mail Boxes Etc. (MBE)
outlets in Central Region and the six East Malaysian cities. MBE
serves as the brick-and-mortar location for Redbox.

All
packages sent through Redbox may be tracked online with a graphical Google
Maps interface.

Damien
Santer, CEO of DMSBT Group, the Google Enterprise Partner that
provides the tracking services, said, “We are very proud to be
associated with the world’s first low-cost courier service. Google
Maps will assist Redbox customers in tracking the safe delivery of
their packages. Google Maps has the world covered, and our
extensive knowledge of the areas where we operate and our
state-of-the-art tools ensure that the tracking of packages is
fast and easy. The invaluable add-on service that Google Maps
offers to Redbox customers will be sure to boost customers’
confidence in Redbox.”

Redbox also has a live chat
function that allows customers to get in touch with a service
representative if they need help with Redbox online.
